Information we collect

If you create an account, Firebase Authentication provides us with your user ID, email address, display name, profile photo, sign-in provider, and account timestamps. Your private account record also contains the places you save and recommend.

If you nominate a place, we store the place name, location, category, reason, optional link, your user ID, submission time, and moderation status. Please do not put personal or sensitive information in a nomination.

Basic analytics

We use Google Analytics through Firebase to understand aggregate use of the site, such as page views, approximate geography, device and browser type, and referral source. Advertising storage and ad personalization are disabled. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers for measurement.

You can limit this collection with browser privacy controls, tracking protection, or an analytics-blocking extension. Blocking analytics does not prevent you from using the core site.

How information is used

We use account information to sign you in and show your own saved and recommended places. Recommendations contribute to public aggregate totals, but the public site does not identify who recommended a place. Nominations are used for moderation and possible inclusion in the catalog. Analytics helps us improve the site and find reliability problems.

Services and sharing

The site uses Google Firebase for hosting, authentication, database services, and analytics. Those services process information on our behalf under their own terms and privacy practices. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the site and its users. We do not sell or rent account information.

Retention and your choices

We retain account and community data while it is useful to operate the service. To request access, correction, or deletion of your account data, email simpleberkeley@gmail.com. Removing an account may not remove previously generated anonymous aggregate counts or records we must retain for security and integrity.

Security and age

We use access rules and Firebase security features to limit access, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Simple Berkeley is not intended for children under 13.
